Claren is passionate about directing and creating new work in a collaborative setting. Her work focuses on striking imagery and integrated, ambitious design and is grounded in a deep understanding of the actors’ craft.
As a producer and Artistic Director of Pencil Kit Productions, she takes a holistic approach to theatre making, considering the event of gathering beyond simply what happens on stage.
She is the recipient of the 2018 Ken MacDougall Emerging Director Award and the 2015 My Entertainment World Award for Outstanding Direction (Small Theatre). She was also a 2025 Dora Award nominee for Outstanding Direction (General Theatre Division) for Reina alongside co-director Augusto Bitter and a 2023 Dora Mavor Moore Award nominee for Outstanding Projection Design (Independent Theatre Division) for I love the smell of gasoline.
